Applicants must have the equivalent of a C average or better. No failing grades are allowed.

Only Kenyan citizens are eligible to apply. Permanent USA residents are not eligible. Grade 9 and 10 students, Form 3 students under the 8-4-4 system are Eligible to apply (Semester Program only)

Social life

Participants in the AFS Scholarship Program enjoy a rich and engaging social life built around cultural exchange and community involvement. Living with a host family allows students to become part of everyday family life, celebrate local traditions, and build close personal relationships.

At school, students interact with local classmates, join clubs and activities, and form friendships from diverse cultural backgrounds. AFS also organizes group activities, orientations, and cultural events where participants meet other exchange students and volunteers.

Through community service, social gatherings, and cultural excursions, students develop strong interpersonal skills, global friendships, and a sense of belonging. The program encourages openness, respect, and active participation, creating a supportive and enriching social environment.
